About Spring Break Nicaragua

Philosophy for the trip
This spring break trip will introduce people to the beauties of Nicaragua with the hopes that they will have a great time, grow to love this place, and hopefully return to Central America throughout their lifetimes.  We want Nicaragua to be more recognized for the great tourism and voluntary opportunities it has, as not too many people have traveled to Nicaragua for vacations.  We hope that the trip will be a positive introduction to this often unexplored country in Latin America.  This trip integrates flexibility to allow the individual to choose among many activities: the amount of adventure, nature-based experiences, Spanish immersion and practice, shopping, and relaxing.  This trip is priced as low as possible so that it is more financially accessible to those who would like to attend.  This trip makes use of many quality microenterprises that are in Nicaragua, thus supporting the local economy and some hard working people, while also allowing us to keep costs low.

About your Tour Leaders

Amanda Gant is the tour organizer and promoter and is the main contact with the travelers who will be joining this trip, especially in the weeks leading up to Day one of Spring Break Nicaragua 2010.  She’s worked to pull together the strongest itinerary incorporating some of her personal favorite experiences that she has had over her last 3 ½ years of visiting and volunteering in Nicaragua. This will be the second Spring Break trip that Amanda has organized.  Last year a total of 15 people participated in the spring break trip. Amanda is a 2007 graduate of Georgetown University with a degree in International Economics and a certificate in Development Economics, and is a class of 2012 graduate student at the Georgetown Public Policy Institute. She speaks English, Spanish, and a little Portuguese.  Contact her at alg32@georgetown.edu
