Boat tour in Granada, Day 2: No stay in Granada is complete without seeing its reputedly more than 365 islands. This tour will weave between the islands, where we can see that many people have built houses. Hiking tours from Finca Magdalena: We will be spending all of day 5 at Finca Magdalena, a farm where organic coffee and vegetables are grown, and is managed by an agricultural cooperative. Finca Magdalena offers guides who can accompany hikers to petroglyphs (3 hours) that are located nearby, or to the cloud forest and the lagoon on the top of the Maderas Volcano (7.5 hours).
Entry to Ojo del Agua: A natural spring, and a great place to cool off, swim, and relax. Surf trip in San Juan del Sur: A great local surf company will take participants in a jeep to beaches where there are great waves. Price includes trip to the beach, surfboard, wax, leash, and rash guard for the day.
Zip-line canopy tour in San Juan del Sur: What could be cooler than flying from tree to tree in the jungle? I have asked myself this question a few times, and the answer is: Not much. This trip includes transportation in a van up the side of the mountain where a professional canopy guide will teach you how to repel and other techniques for the activity. Available day: 2 Optional Activities: *All additional cost listings are approximate. You will pay the businesses in cash directly for these activities. Kayak Rental at Laguna de Apoyo: Small hotels around the lagoon have kayaks available for rental. This would be a great opportunity to get in some exercise and explore the lagoon.

If you are interested in taking Spanish classes, let me know so that we can be sure to have a tutor ready for you when we arrive in Nicaragua. We use reputable Spanish schools where local Nicas will be teaching Spanish one-on-one. These classes are a great way to receive intercultural knowledge, and to help out the local economy. Available Days: 2, 7, and 8 Additional Cost: $8/hour of instruction Cooking class in San Juan del Sur: In cooperation with one of the Spanish schools in San Juan del Sur, and with the thought that food and being able to prepare it is key to understanding and sharing a culture (also delicious), we'll be offering a cooking class. The class includes a local "chef", and the food that we will eat following the class.

A dear friend of mine, Larry Thraen teaches some great yoga classes. This can be a great way to rejuvenate after all of our other activities! He brings the mat, you bring the energy.
Available days: 7 or 8 Additional cost: $5/hour-long class Included vs. Optional Activities: The result of keeping many activities optional is to allow you to customize your vacation in Nicaragua; you can make it as active, engaging, relaxing or educational as you would like it to be. Meanwhile, the included activities serve to bring our group together to do things that really are quintessential to the Nicaraguan experience. Keep in mind that every activity is optional, in that if it does not interest you or you would rather do something else at the time, that is fine. |
