FAQ

Why do I purchase my own flight to and from the Managua Airport?
This is because we want to conserve the flexibility of every person to join and leave the tour as their international flight determines. We want to be fair to everyone on the trip, regardless of whether they join late, leave early or opt to participate in pre or post-tour traveling.  Coordinating your own filght to and from the airport will greatly reduce your travel costs.

Why doesn't a Spring Break Nicaragua trip include airfare?
I've looked into group airfare booking, and the prices aren't cheap.  For example, on Spirit Air, you can buy a RT ticket from DC to Managua for $350 (including taxes). That same flight costs $940 (not including taxes) if bought through group sales.

How does Spring Break Nicaragua decide which meals and activities are included, and which are not included in the base price?
There was much thought in crafting this trip to being as fair, efficient and cost-effective as possible.  First, if an activity is something that everyone in the group will be participating in, it is included (such as touring the Masaya volcano).  An example of an activity not included is the canopy zip tour in Granada; some may not want to partake for fear of heights, or for wanting to pursue other activities that day, such as Spanish classes.  Therefore, in order to give more options to the individual, we have not included the zip-line tour in the base price.  As for deciding meal inclusion, if the meal is planned to be at one specific restaurant or hotel, then we have included it, so that we might all eat together and enjoy the benefits of volume pricing.  However, in many situations it is more pleasurable to enjoy free time around the town choosing where one would like to eat individually.

Would You Spend Less If You Traveled On Your Own?
Not if you wanted the same exposure to the best Nicaraguan experiences that we provide.  Spring Break Nicaragua is a tag team of a Nica and and American bilingual guide offering you private transfers, quality hotels, admissions to parks, travel advice, and adventure activities.  All of this leads to an efficient use of your limited vacation time so that you can experience the best sites in Nicaragua.  When you combine this with our company's organization of the trips, our expertise with your itinerary and the convenience, comfort and safety of using our services, we are an exceptionally good value.  Without a tour guide, you may spend hours trying to figure out how to take buses to where you need to go, you may be more likely to be charged "tourist" prices by the locals.

Is it safe to travel in Nicaragua?
Nicaragua is statistically it is the safest country in Central America. With over a decade of political stability, Nicaragua is receiving more and more international travelers every year. The world is re-discovering this amazing country but it is still very much off the beaten path.

What are the health and vaccination recommendations?
Center For Disease Control recommends Hepatitis A, Tetanus, & Typhoid vaccinations. Visit the CDC Site for the latest information.  Also, a quick visit to your doctor can prepare you for this trip.

How can I get to Granada from the Managua Airport if I join later than day 1?
This is up to you, but we can give you pointers.  We are not responsible for the service you may receive from the following options:

Public transportation – (<$2) Outside the airport you can take a public bus with a sign Huembes-Tipitapa (3 cordobas) then in the bus station in Tipitapa take a bus to Masaya (10 cordobas) and finally a bus from Masaya to Granada (10 cordobas). The bus from Masaya to Granada will leave you in the market which is four blocks south from Granada central park. The buses will be a little bit crowded. Enjoy the culture.

Schedule a shuttle transport service – ($15-50)
I suggest you Google search this option to choose your favorite transport service, but some places I have heard of are:  http://www.orotravel.com/  and http://www.paxeos.com/

How can I get to the Managua Airport from San Juan del Sur if I want to leave early or later than the group?
We can help you reserve a locally-reccomended private taxi for you to the airport (prices $25- 40).  As for public transportation you would have to take a bus from San Juan del Sur to Rivas, then a bus from Rivas to Granada, and then the transportation from Granada to the Managua Airport as described above (only in reverse). That is a LOT of bus transfers!
